30 Days Pre Check-In Thoughts

Hello everyone,

Today is August 1, 2015. In 27 days, my roommate Kelsey and I will begin our roadtrip to the Sunshine Stage. And in 30 days is the Disney College Program check-in date for August 31st arrivals!

Now that I'm in the final month of being home surrounded by the people I care about, it's really beginning to sink in that I'll be leaving very soon. It's unbelievable how fast time has flown the past couple months. I feel like I'm in a mad scramble to see as many people as I can before I leave and spending as much time as I can with the people closest to me. It's crazy that I've already said some goodbyes to people, like some close college friends that live far from my hometown that I won't get to see until next year. There's no time to waste because before I know it, it'll be time to load up the car and head south for the fall.

I'm experiencing a mix of emotions at this current state. I'm so excited to begin my journey with Disney and ready to experience all the magic and find out my work location/meet new friends, nervous about the unknown and the uncertainty, sad to leave people I care about behind and not being able to see them for a long time, overwhelmed with how little time I have left to prepare, a little scared to live completely on my own (I don't count my experiences dorming at school), and a lot more. I guess these are all completely normal things to feel and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

So for now, I will continue to spend a lot of time with the people I care about, eat as many Jersey bagels, pizza and disco fries before I go, and slowly (or maybe quickly) get ready for Disney.

I hope you all have a magical day, and I'll see ya real soon!

Disney College Program Fall 2015 Application Process

Hey lovely people,

I have many family and friends wondering about how I applied to the Disney College Program, or perhaps there are some Disney College Program hopefuls out there that want to apply to the program that want to hear about someone's application experiences. I'm more than happy to share my application process here!

You can read about the Disney College Program extensively here to save you all some time: http://cp.disneycareers.com/en/default/ I will mainly be discussing my process in this post. This was the first and only time I have applied for the Disney College Program, so this is my only experience applying.

When I decided that I wanted to seriously apply and participate for the Disney College Program, I researched which program would be suited best for me. Applicants have the option to choose from four programs: Fall, Fall Advantage, Spring, and Spring Advantage. The Fall Advantage and Spring Advantage programs include the summer months. I knew I didn't want to work during the extra months because 1) I felt like that would be too long for me to be away from home and 2) I have a summer job that I love and have been working there for some time now, and wouldn't want to be away from that job. So I then had to choose between Spring and Fall. I wanted to choose Fall because there is so much going on then -- they have the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, and more unique festivities. That all sounded like a lot of fun for me, especially since I've never been to Disney for the holidays. But knowing that I'd be away from home for the holidays had me thinking, maybe I should just do the Spring program instead. I eventually talked myself into deciding that although I'll be homesick for Thanksgiving and Christmas, participating in the Fall Program would be the most exciting for me.

Applications for the Fall/Fall Advantage program usually drop in late January/early February. So the semester before, I did tons of extra research on the application process and started gathering practice interview questions incase I made it to the phone interview. This definitely helped me a lot by preparing a few months early a little at a time.

Sometime in January, I joined the Disney College Program Fall/Fall Advantage 2015 Facebook group to stay in the know about all things DCP Fall 2015 related. I wanted to know right away when the applications dropped because I wanted to apply on the first day.

Applications dropped on January 26th, a week earlier than I thought it would. Of course, I applied right away. About an hour later, I got my "Thank You For Applying" email. It was getting real!

An hour after I got that email, still on January 26th, I got the email that I was selected to participate in the web based interview. Everyone is required to participate in the WBI before moving on to a phone interview. This web based interview checks to see if you are a strong enough candidate for the program.

I remember freaking out in class as snow was falling from the sky, too excited to pay attention and so happy that I was selected just to fill out my WBI. I raced back to my dorm after class and in a quiet environment (thanks to my roommate for leaving the room so I could answer the questions in peace!) took my WBI.

After taking my WBI, which took about 20 minutes give or take, I saw that I had passed and was moving on to the phone interview! I was shaking with relief and also nerves - the real deal was about to happen! That same day, January 26th, I selected the date of my phone interview, which I chose for January 30th at 11:15 AM. I figured the sooner I had the interview, the better. It meant less time for me to sit anxiously thinking about it.

The next few days, I anxiously prepared myself for the interview. Special shout out to my friends and my parents for keeping me sane during those moments, and for doing mock interviews with me. I probably would have lost it without you!

The night before my phone interview, I wrote some of my favorite inspiring Disney quotes on post it notes and hung them above my desk where I would be sitting during my interview. I thought that it would help calm my nerves a bit during my interview, and I can say it did! I also tried to go to bed at a reasonable hour, but I mostly ended up tossing and turning in my sleep.

I woke up way before my alarm went off that morning because I was so nervous. I went over all my questions a few more times to refresh my memory. I listened to some Disney music that morning too, to remind myself why I chose to do the program in the first place. An hour before interview time, I just sat in my desk, waiting.

My interview happened a few minutes after the time I selected, which had me freaking out because I thought they forgot about me haha. Obviously that wasn't the case. When my interviewer called, I made sure to write down their name right as they told me so I could refer to their name during my interview and wouldn't forget. That's probably one of the best DCP phone interview tips I can give -- make sure you write down their name and call them by name during the interview! It's professional and respectful to the person who is interviewing you.

Around midnight on January 31st, I got the Thank You For Interviewing email. And that was the last email I got for awhile because now it was time to play the waiting game.

On February 19th, at 4:48 PM, I got my acceptance email! I was sitting in the student center eating dinner before my night class when I found out. I was in such disbelief. The second wave of acceptances had happened that day but I thought it all ended after lunch. I figured I wasn't going to be a part of that acceptance wave that day. So I was clearly not expecting to get this glorious acceptance email!

It is honestly the best email I've ever gotten to this day.

So there you have it! My very first time applying to the Disney College Program and I got in the first try. I honestly feel so blessed and certainly very thankful for this incredible opportunity. I can't wait to share my memories with everyone along the way!

Thanks for reading! I hope you all have a magical day and I'll see ya real soon :)

Walt Disney World Spring Break March 2015 Day 5

Hello everyone,

Well, it's been about a month since my last post. I did not mean to disappear like that! I'm so sorry! School has been pretty crazy, and when I'm not in class or doing homework, I'm at work or trying to relax. I'll do my best to post not as spread apart like this. Not that anyone is probably reading this anyway lol. I just really want to have something to look back on from my program so I'd better practice posting more often!

Day 5 was Epcot! We went during the Flower and Garden Festival. The park is gorgeous enough, but with the beautiful plants and flowers they add, it's even more beautiful.

I met Mickey at Epcot and let me just tell you, it was an emotional time haha. I had my "I'm celebrating my DCP" button on and Mickey was SO excited. I said I'd be working for him really shortly. He started jumping up and down and gave me the biggest hug. I told him I would see him real soon (pun intended) and I wanted to cry from the Disney feels lol. Mickey is the best.

Marina and I spent most of the day "traveling around the world" at the World Showcase. Definitely my favorite part of Epcot and the reason why I love coming back.

We ate dinner at one of my favorite Disney restaurants, Beaches and Cream! I got the grilled cheese and you're probably thinking, wow, out of everything they had, you got a grilled cheese? NO. This is the BEST grilled cheese I've ever had. It was a blend of six cheeses and was just so soft and delicious. I can't wait to go to Beaches and Cream on the reg during my program.

We then watched Illuminations at one of the best spots in the World Showcase, JAPAN!

And then we saw NSYNC which was the most perfect end to a perfect day at Epcot! Anyone who knows me knows I am OBSESSED with NSYNC. (Yes. Still obsessed. Don't judge.)

Stay tuned for Day 6 and the last day of my spring break trip! Once I'm done posting about my Disney World spring break adventures, expect to see some posts about my interview process for the DCP and other CP related things!

I hope you all have a magical day and I'll see ya real soon!

Walt Disney World Spring Break March 2015 Days 1 and 2

Hello everyone!

I took a trip to Walt Disney World for spring break this year! Back in January, I was really bummed I didn't have any plans for spring break. We've had a really cold winter and I really wanted to get away from that and escape to somewhere warm for a week. I had gone to Disney on my spring break last year and since I knew I was applying to the DCP, I thought that maybe I should visit somewhere different this spring break. I thought really hard about a few different options, but realized the places I wanted to go to would be extremely expensive or would be difficult to get around because of transportation since I'm not old enough to rent a car. So my friend Marina and I decided to go to Disney!

We stayed at the All Star Music Resort!

Last year we stayed at All Star Movies. I just need to stay at All Star Sports to say I've stayed at all the All Star hotels! I've developed a special place in my heart for these hotels. They're so fun and brightly decorated, and best of all, affordable. If you're looking to take a trip to Disney World and would like to stay on property, definitely check out one of the All Star hotels. I could honestly just stay at the hotels and still have a fun time! There were two pools at All Star Music, an arcade, picnic areas, a bar, a food court with tons of options, and fun recreational activities like pool games and movie nights by the pool! We actually caught Monsters Inc at All Star Sports one night!

Our first day consisted of going to Downtown Disney, eating at Earl of Sandwich and Ghiradelli's, shopping, swimming, and eating pizza and wings from the hotel for dinner.

The next day was Magic Kingdom! It is always super emotional going to Magic Kingdom -- it just is the image of pure Disney magic and I always feel so happy when I'm there. It makes me feel like a child again and I honestly feel so carefree when I'm there. This time was even more special because I have now been accepted to the Disney College Program so I know now that I get to work for this amazing company in the very near future.

So many magical things happened that day. For one, I tried my very first Dole Whip! After years of going on vacation to Disney, I have finally tasted it and now LOVE it! I was celebrating my birthday on this trip, and the people at Aloha Isle saw my birthday button and said the Dole Whip was on them. So magical! It made me so happy to have been recognized like that and it made my first Dole Whip a lot more special. I really appreciated that. I will be eating plenty of these on my College Program!

(mine is on the left)

I met Princess Tiana for the first time and she was the sweetest! She saw my DCP Acceptance button and said, "Welcome to the family!" It really hit me in that moment that I was getting to work for Walt Disney World. She said that she hoped she would see me around more often, and I told her I would definitely be visiting her a lot when I come back in August!

Couldn't complete a trip to Magic Kingdom without lunch at Peco's Bill!

I don't want this post to get too long so I'm going to stop here and continue talking about the rest of my trip in another post. I just thought it would be fun to share about my most recent Disney trip, and I'm happy to have this blog so that I can look back someday and remember all my wonderful Disney memories!

I hope you all have a magical day and I'll see ya real soon :)

Saturday, March 7, 2015

Hello!

Hi everyone!

My name is Lindsey and I have been accepted to the Disney College Program for Fall 2015! My role is Merchandise and I am so excited to be a part of the magic at Walt Disney World this year!

On this blog, I plan on posting updates before, during, and after my program to help better capture memories and the emotions I'll be feeling during this whole process. I have well over 100 days to go so it might seem silly of me to be starting this up now, but I want to be able to remember everything about this one of a kind opportunity. This will also be a great way to update my family and friends back home when I am on the program, as well as reaching out to current, past, and future CP's!

In the mean time, make sure to check out my DCP Instagram: @lindseydcp, as well as my YouTube account: LindseyDCP. I know, I'm super creative with the usernames haha. I haven't posted any videos to the account yet but I'll be working on a few soon!

I hope you have a magical day and I'll see ya real soon!
